Is Atkins Diet Healthy Induction Menu For Atkins Diet
UK ad regulators go crazy for carbs, classify cheese as junk food

Jimmy Moore is up in arms this week on his podcast, and rightfully so, decrying the ridiculous decision in the UK that the Atkins Nutritional Approach could not be described as "healthy". A print advertisement for the Atkins diet was forcibly removed by a consumer watchdog group. Their "reason"ing? There is not enough evidence that the low-carb diet is a "healthier lifestyle."

In more craziness from across the pond, cheese was classified as "junk food" under new advertising rules for children's television. The Daily Mail reports that the ban will come into effect this month, with all commercials promoting cheese prohibited during children's TV shows and other shows with a large proportion of young viewers. The fate of the cheese-loving claymation characters, Wallace and Gromit, remains to be seen...

What's So Unhealthy About The Atkins Diet?

Just when you think you've heard it all from the people who oppose livin' la vida low-carb, along comes a story like the one I share out of Great Britain in Episode 18 which should remind you that these people will stop at nothing to discredit this healthy lifestyle change so many of us have chosen. You'll never believe what they say is HEALTHIER than the Atkins diet!

Discussing diets

Someone once told me that the path to riches was to write a diet book that becomes a best seller. It's appropriate this time of year to talk about dropping pounds. The whole New Year's resolution thing and all that. My gym has become crowded again, and even though I know its temporary, it's funny to watch the grim determination with which the new members pound out mile after mile on the treadmills and climb Empire State Buildings over and over again on the Stairmasters.

But back to the book idea. In a recent visit to Barnes & Noble, I gazed in wild eyed wonder at the bookshelves teeming with all sorts of diets. From Atkins to Weight Watchers, there's one for every letter of the alphabet. The South Beach diet in which you move to Florida and eat sand. The eat, drink and be healthy plan where you join AA after a short while.

Losing weight doesn’t always equal to gaining health

Health foods come first for me. I eat a good breakfast, skip lunch, munch on fruit and nuts all day, and work out like a maniac. If I dont work out, I try skipping both lunch and dinner. I dont eat anything fried or from outside, confesses Sheikh. On college trips I take along a lot of soya munchies to snack on and avoid the junk.

According to Neha Gehi, whos studying diet ethics, the concept of a diet is a myth in itself. Nutritionists often provide weight-loss diets, but they still recommend healthy eating. However, the popular Atkins diet, a high-protein, high-fat diet, is blindly followed here, says Gehi.

I think a hearty breakfast and organic food is the best diet for teens. Junk food and starving shouldnt be on the list of to-do things. I also recommend minusing processed foods.

What Is The South Beach Diet?

The South Beach Diet was developed by cardiologist Arthur Agatston to help his patients lose weight and maintain a healthy diet for a lifetime. It is designed in phases, like the Atkins Diet, with different eating recommendations in each phase. All phases have the same underlying philosophy, though. Weight loss and maintenance depends on establishing a balanced diet that avoids 'bad' fats and carbohydrates.

The proponents of the South Beach diet claim that you can lose weight and maintain the weight loss without counting calories, weighing portions or depriving yourself of good-tasting, satisfying foods. This is accomplished by cutting out empty, high-carbohydrate foods like sugars, potatoes, rice and white bread. Each phase is specially designed to accomplish a particular goal.
