Report: Over 70 Percent Of Americans Will Try Dieting This Year

Arlington, Texas (AHN) - Each year, 70 percent of Americans resolve to lose weight in the New Year and 2007 is no different. Americans are looking to become fitter and healthier for 2007. OomphDiet, an online diet website and American Consumer Opinion panel conducted a survey throughout 2006, revealing that dieting behavior is remarkably similar across the U.S. The percentages of adults who have dieted in the past 12 months varied only a percentage point or two across the major regions of the country.

The percentage of dieting differs within gender. Women are likely to follow a diet that relates to weight control. Women chose diets that are low in calories, low in fat, low sugar or low in sodium, while males opt for different options for losing weight. The OomphDiet survey results shows that America is a diet nation, according to Jonathan Thomas, CEO of OomphDiet.

Girl Scout cookies can fit into your diet

Girl Scout cookies are coming to a coffee break, lunch box or kitchen near you.

They're for a good cause, and they taste so good that some people have been known to make a whole box of them disappear in one day.

In moderation, Girl Scout cookies can fit into your food plan -- and you can still fit into your clothes. If you ate a serving of the best-selling Thin Mints (four cookies) every day for a week, there would still be a few cookies left in the box.

But if those cookies never seem to last that long at your house, here are some tips:

• Don't eat them straight out of the box. It's too easy to lose track -- or lose control -- of how many you're eating that way, especially if you're watching TV or working on a computer while munching.

Nutritious Skillet?

Did your mother or grandmother ever tell you cooking in an iron skillet improves the iron content of your food? Well believe it or not, she was right!

Before there were aluminum and stainless steal cookware, people's diets were unknowingly supplemented with iron from their iron pots and pans. If you have cast iron cookware, you can get the benefits, too. .

The Best Life Diet Challenge Starts

Bob Greene, Oprah's trainer and author of The Best Life Diet is getting several lucky people in shape for The Best Life Weight Loss Challenge and you can follow along and get in shape too! Before you get started, Bob wants you to ask yourself these questions:

Why am I overweight? Rather than "I don't have time to make healthy food" or "I have to eat out a lot," recognize the feelings that lead you to overeat. For example, you're really anxious about work and ice cream calms you down. Or, your husband is emotionally distant and eating fills the void.

Why do I want to lose weight? If you say, "To look better," push further to ask, "Why?" Maybe you're afraid your significant other will leave you for someone prettier. But what does that mean about your relationship? Maybe you're trying to meet someone.
